WHAT IS BLACK HOLE
A black hole is an extremely dense region in space where the gravitational pull is so strong that nothing, not even light, can escape from it. It is formed by the collapse of a massive star, where the core of the star becomes so dense that it creates a singularity - a point of infinite density and zero volume - surrounded by an event horizon. 
The event horizon is the point of no return, beyond which nothing can escape the gravitational pull of the black hole. Black holes come in different sizes, from small ones formed by the collapse of a single star to supermassive ones that are millions or billions of times the mass of the Sun and are found at the centers of most galaxies

a black hole was first proposed in the 18th century by English natural philosopher John Michell and French mathematician Pierre-Simon Laplace, but it wasn't until the 20th century that the idea gained acceptance among scientists.
"black hole" was coined in the mid-1960s by American physicist John Wheeler. The first actual black hole candidate, Cygnus X-1, was discovered in 1971 by astronomers using X-ray telescopes. Since then, many other black hole candidates have been found in our own Milky Way galaxy and beyond.
